Have you ever had one of those days where we have been super busy yet feel you have not accomplished a thing?

Often the line between productivity and being busy can become unclear. How can you tell when you are being productive or simply busy as a business owner? To accomplish our goals and succeed, we must have a mindset that brings maximum productivity to our day each day.

What does it mean to be busy? Busy is great but how do you know if you are being productive?

Here’s your guide to untangling this issue.

What were my goals?

Reflect, what did you set out to do today?

Productive people always have a to-do list. You’re possibly just busy if you have a long list of work with no end.

Your view on how you will get this work done is also a factor in deciding if these are goals or simple chores on a list.

Did you focus on one thing, or were you juggling a lot? Productive people generally focus on a single priority and structure their workload around that.

If you’re shifting gears around multiple tasks, you won’t be able to get much work done as you think you should.

What was your schedule?

Did you plan your day or dive into the things as they came across your desk? Productive people usually have their workloads planned out days or even weeks ahead.

If you don’t have a plan, you can easily expose yourself to distractions and get sucked into dealing with minor tasks. You end up being too busy with these tasks and find you don’t end the day feeling productive.

Did you leave specific tasks for later?

Productive business owners know when to leave or delegate specific tasks to others to avoid being overwhelmed.

Being busy, on the other, involves leaving everything to yourself, which can only mean giving yourself more work and fewer goals to accomplish.

What did you finish today?

When defining the difference between productivity and simply being busy, you only consider the results they produce.

Productive business owners feel a sense of accomplishment even if there is still work left to be done, so long as they’ve finished what they set out to do.

However, busy bees might not experience the same sensation after their busy day ends.

Between being productive and being busy, which one resonates with your style of running a business?

You must choose the guaranteed option to bring your business closer to your goals. By being more productive, your business will naturally become more profitable!
